Ski resorts around Europe have improved their quality markedly this year. You can see this in the results from the “big European winter sports survey”, carried out by the holiday review site, Zoover. Value for money, child-friendliness, and the quality of skiing for seasoned skiers has improved on average at all ski resorts. Even the resorts’ after ski is more appreciated than before.

Far from all ski resorts feature in Zoover’s survey, despite their merits.

Two of 2012’s travel trends are rumoured to be combination trips and central European cities. Our travel economist snapped this idea up and made a combination trip, in the second week of this year, to Prague and the ski resort of Spindleruv Mlyn, about two and a half hours car journey from the Czech capital. The citizens of Prague travel to Spendleruv Mlyn when they want to escape the bustle of the city and it’s usually weekends that resort feels the most pressure. Even though there are only around 15 runs, there is a lot of varied skiing and after a day on the slopes, there’s a good array of cosy restaurants to recuperate in.
