Questions about traveller's cheques

FOREX Bank often gets questions from customers as to whether they should take part of their spending money in traveller’s cheques. The answer is that it can be useful in some cases, e.g. long-distance or long-term trips. When you buy traveller’s cheques, insurance is included so if the cheques get destroyed or mislaid, they can be replaced.

FOREX Bank sells traveller’s cheques in American, Australian and Canadian Dollars, as well as in Euros and Japanese Yen. However, cheques are more expensive to purchase than cash and there are often large fees to cash them in. So our recommendation is, in most cases, to take cash and plastic cards e.g. FOREX Visa, FOREX Bank card or FOREX Global Cash. The latter could almost be thought of as an electronic traveller’s cheque, which is loaded in advance, and then can be reloaded during your trip.

A good rule of thumb is to ask our experienced staff about what to take on your journey!
