33 Days holiday

7/2/2012

Travel News has published a desk-top survey about work and holiday habits in different countries. It shows that Swedes, with 33 days off annually including bank holidays, have the most amount of holiday in the world. Close behind the Swedes are the Dutch with 31.5 days per year and the Danish with 30 days.

Americans have to make do with a comparatively measly 12 days each year but it’s Asia which is least generous with holidays. The Philippines get five days a year, Thailand six and Taiwan has seven.

The survey also shows that people don’t necessarily want more holiday. In March the Swiss voted on a suggestion to increase annual holiday from 20 to 30 days. 70% of people voted against it, probably because most people don’t feel they can afford more holiday as people tend to spend more on holiday than when they’re working.
