The idea with the new denominations on the way is money, or to be more truthful, saving money. With a two Crown coin Riksbanken would save on the amount of one Crown coins, and with a 200 note, the need for 100 notes is drastically reduced. And money is expensive to buy!
Did you know that coins cost much more than notes to buy? Riksbanken pay 75öre (SEK 0.75) for each one Crown coin, which are minted by Mint of Finland limited, whilst they pay only 40öre for each 100 Crown note from their suppliers, Crane AB in Tumba, part of Crane and Co Inc. In 2001 Riksbanken sold its operation in Tumba to this American company.
