Our favourite place on La Gomera is called Valle Gran Rey, The Valley of the Great King. It is a place comprising of three interconnecting villages by the water. It is a good base from which to explore the island, which at the very least can offer challenging long-distance paths. An extra advantage with Valle Gran Rey is the shipping company, Fred.Olsen, which berths here with three daily departures from Los Cristianos on Tenerife.
Another magnificent place is the village, Hermigua, in the north. Here you’ll find fertile cultivation and if you’re lucky, you might hear the strange whistle language – the old way of communicating across the wild terrain. Those who find their way down to the beach should avoid bathing; the jagged rocks and strong currents are not to be messed about with.
There are plenty of places to stay on the island, simple as well as exclusive places. It’s very cheap to hire a car. More information can be found by searching “La Gomera” online.
