When Competition dies

Last autumn, HH Ferries, who run ferries between Helsingborg and Helsingör, gave up the fight against the giant Scandlines.

Today the company is basically a part of Scandlines and the lack of competition can clearly be seen in their price lists. If you Google “HH Ferries”, you’ll still find the “Öresund low price fares”, but they are identical to Scandlines’ fares. A single ticket for a car and passengers across the Öresund sound costs SEK 375 on the Internet or SEK 410 if you buy it at the harbour and a combination ticket via Rödby to Puttgarden in Germany costs SEK 970 and 1075 respectively, which is a very large rise compared to when HH Ferries was an independent company.
The Öresund Bridge hasn’t delayed in picking up on the dead competition from the ferries. Today a single journey by car costs SEK 375. Compare this to the price to travel across the Great Belt link bridge, DKK 220 (approx SEK 295).
