...And in the canaries

There’s a closer and cheaper alternative. The carnivals on Gran Canaria and Tenerife should be experienced, with the biggest ones being in the islands’ capitals, Las Palmas and Santa Cruz.

The carnivals in Las Palmas take place from the 18th of February to the 12th of March, with the highlights being the drag queens’ party on the 4th of March, the grand parade on the 5th, the sun parade along Las Canteras on the 8th and the close, the burial of the sardine on the 12th.

In Santa Cruz, Tenerife, the carnival period is 15th of February to the 13th of March. Don’t miss the grand parade on the 8th of March and the burial of the sardine the next day.

There are also carnivals in the larger tourist destinations on both these islands and on the other five. You can find out more by visiting www.turismodecanarias.com.
