Best destinations 2

Rough Guides is another travel publisher with excellent guidebooks. They have also listed dream destinations for 2011. With Stockholm in fourth place and neighbouring Turku in sixth place! The main reason for Stockholm is its summer and Turku’s boost comes from having been given the title European Capital of Culture and all the associated events.

Surprise destinations are Galle and Daegu. The former has an impressive fort on an island from the Dutch colonial period. Galle was severely affected by the tsunami in 2004, but seems to have been partly spared from this year’s monsoon rain. Daegu is a city with 2 million inhabitants in the south-west of South Korea.

1. Mumbai (Bombay), India; 2. Berlin, Germany; 3. Dunedin, New Zealand; 4. Stockholm; 5. The Orkney Islands, United Kingdom; 6. Turku, Finland; 7. Macchu Picchu, Peru; 8. Galle, Sri Lanka; 9. Car journey in the USA; 10. Daegu, South Korea.
