Cash to the USA?

In many countries banks will charge you for making card withdrawals from their ATMs. The USA is one such country. In San Francisco we recently encountered fees of up to USD 4 per withdrawal, which poses the question about whether it is cheaper to take out money onsite or to buy USD in Sweden.

We can take an example of a withdrawal of USD 100 from an ATM belonging to Metabank. The base exchange rate was SEK 6.65 per USD, including conversion fee, but including Metabank’s fee and the Swedish card provider’s fee for withdrawals outside of the EU, the final exchange rate became SEK 7.20.

On the same day, you could buy USD from FOREX Bank at a rate of SEK 6.88.
