Cheaper Egyptian pounds

Charter trips are back on from Sweden to Egypt after the uprising against the dictatorship. In other words, “Business as usual” in the large tourist resorts by the Red Sea. There is one difference from before the revolution and that is that the Egyptian Pound has dropped in value. At the beginning of the year one EGP cost SEK 1.30, today the rate is just below 1.20.

FOREX Bank’s advice for travellers to Egypt is to buy EGP for their immediate needs and to take the rest of their money in Euros and exchange them on-site. Most hotels ask for payments for extras in Euros or Dollars and in most cases they accept cards. There are plenty of ATM’s in the larger tourist destinations.
