Curious about Taiwan?

4/18/2012

Taiwan, or officially the Republic of China, is a small, forgotten country next to the mainland giant – not many tourists travel here. The opportunity to do so exists in an organised form with Temaresor, who offer 12-day trips during May and September/October this year.

This densely packed East Asian island consists of a main island as well as a few smaller islands. 23 million people live in an area smaller than Denmark and have one of the highest standards of living in Asia. Talking of heights; Yushan Mountain is 3,952 metres high and the skyscraper, Taipei 101, at 508 meters, was the tallest building in the world for a while.

The currency is called the New Taiwan Dollar. A TWD is worth about SEK 0.21. You’ll need to order Taiwan Dollars in advance from FOREX Bank; otherwise the Dollar is the recommended main currency to take, though all trade is made in the local currency.
