Dreaming about the Seychelles

3/16/2011

Paradise is an abused word in the world of travel. But there are places that almost deserve this epithet. In the Flash editor’s world, this place is called the Seychelles. Wonderful sandy beaches, framed by burnished granite rocks and coconut palms – watch out for falling coconuts! All with a water temperature perfect for bathers and fantastic coral reefs.

We hired a small open jeep, took a packed lunch and travelled around the main island, Mahé, and enjoyed the surroundings and found isolated beaches far away from the luxury hotel’s playor – a day to remember forever.

The Seychelles, which are comprised of 90 islands in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Kenya and Tanzania, have a population of just over 80,000. The country gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1976. The capital city, Victoria, on Mahé, has around a third of the population. Other large islands are Praslin and La Digue.
