Gran Canaria is popular again

Charter operators are reporting a large demand for trips to the old-time favourite, Gran Canaria. And why not? The second largest Canary island is, after Egypt, our closest, relatively reliable sunny destination during the winter.

Experienced GC travellers have their own favourite haunts, but for those that are planning to go there for the first time, the editorial staff at Flash (who have been to all eight of the inhabited islands) can suggest the three best places in running order:

Las Palmas – a large town, with old quarters, a wonderful promenade along Las Canteras beach and the island’s best selection of restaurants and entertainment.

Puerto de Mogán – a cosy tourist destination, in a Greek and Venetian style by the port.

Playa del Inglés – the good old rave capital has calmed down and mellowed. The Maspaloma desert nearby is a given advantage.
