Paris – the city of markets

3/19/2012

A rather pleasurable pastime in Paris is visiting one of the city’s many markets. Almost every district has its own market with its own speciality, meaning that there’s somewhere in which to find a bargain every day of the week.

The Travel Economist’s favourite is Le Marché de la Bastille, which takes place on Thursdays and Sundays near the Metro station of Richard Lenoir. The focus is on food here, although you can also find lots of knick-knacks and antique furniture.  It’s really pleasant strolling round on a Sunday amongst all the vegetables, oysters, cheese and freshly baked bread whilst watching Parisians buy goods for their dinner.
