Plastic notes in the UK

11/1/2011

There’s more and more of them, countries that use plastic notes instead of traditional paper ones. Even the Bank of England is considering using them. It would be the denominations of 5 and 50 Pounds that would be made in polymer.

Polymer is a type of plastic, which is strengthened with two layers of special coating after printing. The point of polymer notes is that they can have transparent windows, which make them very difficult to counterfeit. They are also more durable than paper notes.
