Shopping in Germany

4/26/2011

With today’s fuel prices and charges for bridges and ferries, it’s hardly worth going to Germany just to buy food and alcohol if you don’t live in southern Sweden. However if you’re on a car holiday in Europe…

If you choose any of the Danish chain stores on German soil, avoid paying by card because Danish PBS (national payment system), makes an extra charge of 2.32% when making a purchase in Germany. It is fine, however, to use Euros, Danish or Swedish Crowns. The Danish chains that are found by the border to Germany and in the vicinity of the ferry ports have generous opening hours, even Sundays and German national holidays.
