The forbidden city

If you are in Beijing and are going to visit the Forbidden City think “the early bird catches the worm”. Bus after bus of tourists arrive during the morning, which creates long queues to the ticket office. A risky shortcut is to buy an admission ticket from the early-rising “entrepreneurs” who buy tickets to sell to those who don’t want to queue. If you chose this fast-track, despite the risk of being conned, make sure you haggle over the price as well as checking that the date on your ticket is correct.

The Forbidden City is bigger than you might think and you can experience it best by hiring an audio guide in your language for a few Dollars.

Why not visit Jingshan Park just over the road from the Forbidden City’s north exit. For two Yuan you can stroll around the lovely park and look at people exercising, the beautiful flowers and best of all, the view over the Forbidden City.
