The jungle of Nordic Gold

The new coins, with the 2 Crown coin making a comeback, will all be smaller and lighter compared to the ones we have today, apart from the 10 Crown coin, which will keep its size.

The 1 and 2 Crown coins will be made using copper-plated steel and the 5 and 10 Crowns will made using a special alloy (of which the 10 Crown coin is made today). The alloy is called Nordic Gold and contains 89% copper, 5% aluminium, 5% zinc and 1% tin.

Nordic Gold is the alloy used in the Eurozone for the 10, 20 and 50 cent coins introduced in 2002 and developed by the Swedish metallurgist, Mariann Sundberg.

Nickel is being phased out to the relief of those allergic to coins!
