One of the things that attract tourists is the river trip on the Mekong and the World Heritage city of Luang Prabang, with its many temples, royal palaces, buildings in the French-colonial style and the busy evening market. Laos' currency is called the Kip. You'll get the currency on-site by changing US dollars. Sometimes pubs and sellers prefer to be paid in US dollars, so make sure you have small denominations. The dollar, however, is not as widely used as a parallel currency as it is in the neighbouring country of Cambodia.
