Welcome to Willy Brandt

1/9/2012

In June, Berlin’s new large-scale airport will be inaugurated – with the full name ‘Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg Willy Brandt’ – the last part of the name honouring the city’s Swedish/Norwegian speaking mayor, later the West German foreign minister, then Chancellor.

The airport will have the code BBI. In conjunction with the inauguration, Lufthansa is starting a 12-times-a-week service between Arlanda and Berlin. A spokesperson for the company said that a single ticket on the route will cost from SEK 499. Lufthansa’s new investment in Stockholm will mean that their subsidiary, Germanwings, will no longer fly the route.
