PEP (Politically exposed person)

According to the requirements of the Anti Money Laundry Act, your bank needs to know if you are a person in a politically exposed position. A politically exposed person (PEP) is a person who has or has had important public functions in a state or in an international organization. The term PEP also includes family members or known employees of a person in a politically exposed position.

A PEP is considered by it's position and influence to hold a position that may be exposed to, for example, corruption and bribe. The professions and positions concerned include parliamentarians, supreme judges, ambassadors and senior officers.
