According to a recent survey from Nordea, 48 percent of Swedes plan to travel more in 2025. The new FOREX Holiday Index 2025 compares travel costs in over 90 countries worldwide, showing where you get the most for your holiday budget. This summer, the best-value destinations can be found in Africa and Asia.
The Swedish krona has strengthened, giving Swedish travellers even more value for their holiday spending. This summer, Egypt tops the list as the most affordable travel destination, followed by Nepal, India, and Pakistan – countries where holiday costs are about a quarter of those in Sweden. Indonesia, Cambodia, and Vietnam also offer low living costs, rich culture, and a wide range of experiences for those wanting to see more of the world at a lower price.
“With growing interest in culture, adventure, and value-for-money destinations, many travellers are now looking further east. In many Asian countries, your money goes much further than in Europe or North America,” says Tom Friberg, Head of Communications at FOREX.
The FOREX Holiday Index also highlights a number of affordable options within Europe. Countries like Bulgaria, Turkey, and Serbia offer significantly lower cost levels than Sweden – along with historic settings, local flavours, and reliable sunshine.
“It’s about travelling smart. The Holiday Index helps travellers find destinations where their money stretches further, without compromising on the experience. There are plenty of places where you can enjoy great accommodation, food, and activities for just a fraction of what you’d spend at home,” says Tom Friberg.
