What is a Set Jet trip?

Set jetting, or screen tourism, is one of the biggest residual trends right now. Set jetters visit famous places from movies and series and recreate what took place there, preferably with themselves in the lead role. Of course, photo proof prompt is shared with family and followers on social media.

FOREX has developed an index that helps aspiring set jetters to maximize their travel budget. Once you know what the costs are expected to be, you can easily determine if your travel budget is enough to experience White Lotus in Sicily or Koh Samui.

Cinematic travel to iconic locations

Following in your hero's footsteps requires a little planning. Sometimes also more than one stop. Just like in the TV series Game of Thrones , there is a long way between Winterfell and King's Landing even in real life. If you want to visit both places, you need to travel to County Down in Northern Ireland (index 116) and to Dubrovnik in Croatia (index 108); Two adventures, one trip.

A café au lait à la Emily in Paris costs about the same as at home, but holidaying in Paris is almost 40% more expensive (index 138) than eating and living in Sweden in January. Sometimes, however, it is enough that something is similar to create the right effect in social media. Venice Beach in Los Angeles, where parts of the hit movie Barbie were filmed, is – like Paris – a popular destination. And also about 40% more expensive than Sweden (index 143). For a less dollar-intensive version of Barbie, you can head to Skopje instead. In the North Macedonian capital with its pink illuminated pseudo-classical architecture, not many Macedonian denarii are needed: with an index of 65, the city is a whopping 35% cheaper than at home.

One of next year's blockbusters is The Odyssey, an action fantasy adventure based on Homer's epic The Odyssey. Troy, the city where the famous war took place, was located in what is now Turkey, but for the film it has been recreated in the Moroccan city of Ouarzazate. If you travel the 200 kilometers southeast of Marrakesh, you may not be met by a wooden horse, but by prices that are well under half (38) of those at home – and environments you may recognize. You have arrived in Morocco's Hollywood. Lawrence of Arabia, The Mummy, Gladiator and Game of Thrones are just a few of the productions filmed in the desert city.

In Morocco, cash is still king: a whopping 65% of all payments are made with banknotes and coins, according to the FOREX Cash Index. So make sure to have some dirham in your wallet right from the start. Just keep in mind that you can bring a maximum of 2,000 dirhams in or out of the country (about 2,000 SEK). A smart trick is therefore to also pack euros or US dollars, which you can easily exchange for dirhams when you are there. If you need to top up with more cash during the trip, you can withdraw it free of charge with a FOREX Credit Card outside the EU/EEA. In addition, you avoid currency surcharges when you use the card.

Whether you're dreaming of singing Money, money, money like Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia on the Greek island of Skopelos or finding Platform 9 3/4 to take the train to Hogwarts, you'll take centre stage when you set jets. With the FOREX set jetting index in your luggage, you can plan smart, travel further and experience more. Get ready for your close-up.

*FOREX Set Jet index shows average price levels based on data from numbeo.com (Oct 31, 2025). It compares, among other things, food, drink and taxis with Swedish average prices. Hotel prices are taken from trivago.se (Oct 31, 2025) and refer to three-star hotels for two people during the period January 1-31, 2026. Note that some costs may be higher despite a low index – the index gives a general indication, not exact prices.
